Middleton Place was home to Henry Middleton, who served as President of the 1st Continental Congress. It continued as the home to several generations of notable offspring, including Arthur Middleton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Middleton Place is perhaps the most exceptional plantation in the country - and Charleston's only plantation designated as a national historic landmark.
Your guide will lead you through its Versailles-inspired gardens, once cited by the Garden Club of America as the nation's loveliest. You will also see America's oldest house museum, filled with Middleton treasures that reflect the life of America's wealthiest colonial family.

Notably, you will also see the impressive Avenue of Oaks (ca. 1743) that inspired Margaret Mitchell when writing Gone With The Wind.
